A friend came to visit and I couldn't resist the allure of his bald head.
He was wonderful and patient, and very into the Star Trek movie that was on. ;)
I painted the crosshatching over his eyes to simulate the mesh of the masks. That and the fact that the "stitch marks" don't really show up in the photos are the only things I am not thrilled with.
I used Mehron Paradise paints in Mango, White, Black and Dark Blue. :)
New bodypainting shoot pics :)
I got to model for a super body painting shoot in Shrewsbury today - the body painter was a lady called Jo Sykes, http://www.transformations-bodyart.co.uk/
who is one of my friends on Facebook, and had also posted on Salon Guinea Pig, http://www.salonguineapig.co.uk/
(one of my pet projects lol) that she was after models for body painting - so we arranged a shoot for today in Shrewsbury at our place (we were initially thinking of booking studio space at DASh - Disability Arts in Shropshire - but their studio space wasn't available today).
Pics are already up at http://www.bodypaintmodel.co.uk/pink-corset-shoot.html
(a new website that I set up earlier this week, although I've had the domain for quite a few years now) - have a look at the rest of the website too, http://www.bodypaintmodel.co.uk/
It was also a fab opportunity for my lovely wife Sonia to do some photography - even better that it was in her downstairs bathroom so she was able to come in and take the pics.
That's the first body paint I have modelled for since August 2008, when I sang "I'm Too Sexy" in body paint at my friend Vanessa's photographic exhibition at The Camera Club in London, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oAk7f-_osQ
- and I'm hoping that 2010 will be a totally fab year for body painting now... Current Mood: happy

Bodypainting Booth at Dreamtime Festival 2009
Tree Leaves' Oracle Bodypainting and Tarot Booth @ 2009 Dreamtime Festival
* July 16-19, 2009 * Paonia, Colorado * www.dreamthefuture.org * www.treeleavesoracle.org
Our first time at Dreamtime Festival in Paonia was definitely a hit for some incredible designs and paintings, as well as some phenomenal oracles and tarot readings. It's true that we haven't been out as a booth to many festivals as of late, minus a few theme stations or camps at Apogaea, Burning Man, and a couple of local club gatherings. But its time to stir the cauldron of change as we evolve into a new blossom for the coming next few years. We decided Dreamtime would be the place to whisper the dream. Our primary bodypainting artist and diviner Leaf McGowan enchanted the space with his omens, oracles, and artwork; a collective of faeries, herbs, arts, crafts from our old Ruxton street shoppe were displayed along with Colachi Arts and their inspirational ritual boxes who shared our booth. While we didn't break even with the costs of the venue, as could be expected with today's recession and economic downturn, we had many visitors and made new friends. The photogallery below displays some of the bodypainting designs we brushed out ... with guest bodypainter Kathy Nutt who blew us away with her amazing work. (Thank you!!!)

My "Fashion" Show
8 of the 15 models painted that day (the others were human statues and living tables and were already at work).
On the bed you can see some of the design sheets.
5 weeks prep.
$963 in supplies- paints, brushes, pasties (female models had to wear them), props
Me and 3 assistants posing as artists ;)
One AMAZING night
A note on my models. I know many body artists use the smallest women and the most built/shortest guys they can find. I refuse to do that. They insist that the paints look better, but I don't think so. I think the model has to fit the design in personality first and foremost. I know it's a way of savings/efficiency as well. Less skin means less paint cost and less time spent painting.
I don't believe any of my designs would have worked on someone else and so I would rather use real people as models than select someone for body shape only. My model choices ended up being praised, so it worked. ;)( My two fav designsCollapse ) Current Mood: creative

Mehron Paradise AQ Question
Hi! I have been trying to work with Mehron Paradise AQ and cannot figure out how to get an even coat for the life of me. I hope this is the right place to ask such a question, and hope that some of you have experience with this brand (if that's the problem). The paint comes out uneven. I am not sure if it is because I am not using the same amount of water, or because I am using just a standard makeup wedge to apply. If anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate it!

I've literally have just started body painting this week
it's something that I've always wanted to try and now that i have I'm in love with it and all it's creative possibilities!
The photo below is one I did on Friday, my boy friend is my model
because I decided to try body painting on a whim I just used acrylic, the tube said "non-toxic" and I did a skin test
it seemed to work fairly well, but like I said: I was experimenting on a whim
I'm not sure what kind of products I should use, tools and all that

Bodypainting at Beltania 2009
2nd Annual Colorado Beltania Festival: Tree Leaves' Bodypainting
www.beltanefestival.com * Parrish Ranch * Outside of Fort Collins, Colorado * Living Earth aka Highlands Ranch Pagan Meetup *
Friday-Sunday, May 8-10, 2009
It was a last minute decision for The Tree Leaves' Oracle to decide to show up to Beltania 2009, and while pretty sure that entering as a last minute merchant/venue wouldn't fly, they figured they would try it anyhow. Of course, merchant row was too full, so it was just camping and festival fun. I decided to setup the camp anyhow, a place where people could come for free to paint themselves or get painted, just like we do at Apogaea and Burning Man. We were having too much fun running around dancing, frolicking, swimming, and merrymaking, but did get a few dynamic designs in ... here they are ....

Metallic Body Paints - any advice?
I've been body painting for years now, but I've never found a metallic body paint I've been completely happy with. I've got a few sets coming up which call for copper, silver and gold paints, and this means I need to lay my hands on some. Any advice for one which doesn't chip and flake off in just a couple of hours?
Bonus points for some which I can readily lay my hands on in the Vancouver, British Columbia, area.

I'm not a bodypainter, but I'm going to have to pick up some experience pretty quickly here. I'm working on a fine art photography project that is going to depict portions of text written across the model's bodies or faces (think the pillow book
or inkheart.) The text is going to have to be precise, preferably not necessarily freehanded, and be able to stand up to close without being reflective/too unnatural. Any suggestions on how to do this? Airbrush and stencils, brush and stencils, markers? Custom temporary tattoos? Essentially, this is a bit out of my field and we're going to have to do this for about twenty or so models, so I'm looking for as cheap and low-fuss as possible. Any recommendations, please?
